Therefore, even non-custodial parents may be required to submit information requested by the Business Office.

* = Because these options are limited, Hanalani Schools may not be able to meet the needs of all qualifying new or returning applicants.

Frequently Asked Questions about TAP

  • Q: How do I know if I qualify?
A: Hanalani Schools’ Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) provides financial aid on the basis of merit and financial need, which is defined as the difference between educational expenses and a family’s ability to pay those expenses. Eligibility is based on many factors that are assessed to estimate a family’s ability to pay. Once a financial aid application has been completed, a written notification will be made regarding the Financial Aid Committee’s decision as early as July prior to the new school year.
  • Q: How does Hanalani Schools determine who receives assistance?
A: Besides the specific criteria listed for each type of assistance, Hanalani Schools uses the services of School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS) to help assess a family’s ability to pay school costs.
  • Q: What is the School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS)?
A: SSS is a service of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) and is used by more than 2,400 K-12 schools and organizations across the country to help assess a family’s ability to pay school costs. The SSS process promotes objectivity and consistency in financial aid procedures, and is based on the premise that parents should finance their child’s education to the extent they are able.
  • Q: What happens if information on the application is incorrect or unclear?
A: SSS will contact applicants directly about the information.
  • Q: Is my child’s application for admission affected if I submit an application for financial assistance?
A: No. Financial assistance decisions have absolutely no influence on admissions decisions; however, a child must be officially enrolled before application for financial aid can be made.
  • Q: If I receive financial assistance this year, will I automatically receive assistance next year?
A: No. A new application must be submitted every year.
  • Q: Are there additional requirements expected of me if I am awarded aid?
A: TAP recipients in grades 9—12 will be asked to perform volunteer duties at the school for no more than three hours a week. This job will not interfere with any academic work. Hanalani Schools also believes that effective education involves the partnership of both the school and the parents. In this light, we ask parents for volunteer support at the school. Volunteer support hours are related to the amount of TAP awarded.
  • Q: What happens if Hanalani Schools receives disqualifying information after I have received financial assistance?
A: Depending on the circumstances, the award may be reduced or forfeited.
  • Q: What happens to the scholarship if I withdraw or am released?
A: The scholarship credit will be prorated. Parents are financially responsible for the balance due on their child’s account.
  • Q: What happens if I receive financial aid from another program?
A: We encourage parents to explore as many financial aid options as possible. In the event that financial assistance is received prior to a TAP award, the TAP award may be adjusted.

Hanalani Schools does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, national and ethnic origin, gender, or disability.
