Meet Jessica Mountz, Upper School Academic Counselor.
Where are you from? 
Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Where was your first position in education? 
My first position in education was at Pennsville Memorial High School in Pennsville, NJ. 

What is your background in teaching? 
I have 15 years of teaching experience.

What are you most looking forward to? 
I am looking forward to developing new curriculum for the college preparatory classes and collaborating with Mrs. Murao as we continue to serve the students and prepare them for college.  

What are three words that people use to describe you? 
Organized, friendly, and accomodating.

What is your best personal achievement? 
I earned "Hybrid Teacher of the Year" in 2015 for my achievements in hybrid learning (an educational system that creates dynamic learning and customized instruction).  Hybrid learning is:
  • Designed to improve academic achievement by increasing student involvement and motivation
  • Rotates students to different learning stations that include digital (independent), collaborative, and direct (face-to-face with teacher) instruction
What was the biggest motivation for taking this position? 
I love a challenge, and being Academic Counselor allows me a new opportunity to work with students. 

What is your favorite thing about your career in education? 
Working in education allows me to be creative and teach/share my passions with students. 

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a dolphin trainer. 

What are some goals you have for this school year? 
I want to establish a trusting relationship with students, parents, and teachers.

What is your favorite thing about working with students? 
I enjoy watching them learn and grow academically and emotionally. 

Name a challenge you've overcome:
It may seem small, but the process of moving to Hawaii (including quarantine for our dogs) away from family and friends was a challange. 

Fun fact about yourself:
I have a twin brother!

Give glory to God in all things!
