To commemorate 70 years of Hanalani Schools, our 'ohana including our Head of Schools, students, parents, faculty, founding members, alumni and community members share what "Heaven's Work" is all about.  From our humble beginnings in Wahiawa as King's School to our move to our beautiful 6-acre campus in Mililani as Hanalani Schools, we have grown in many ways and yet our core values have remained the same.  By God's blessings, we will continue on for another 70 years encouraging our 'ohana to always "Love God, Love Others. Challenge Yourself."

Developing servant leaders with Christian character is one way we live by our motto of love God, love others and challenge yourself. Each school year students from preschool through Grade 12 are involved in various types of community service projects. Whether collecting food donations for those in need, creating craft kits for children in local hospitals, or planning school events. Leadership and entrepreneurial skills are developed from acts of service to others. This year to commemorate our 70th Anniversary we plan to complete 70 Acts of Kindness as a school community.

“We want our students to get out and help the community and be an example for others. 70 Acts gives us a rallying point to stretch us to do a little more than we normally would do through a school year. We hope to impact the lives of others and instill in our students the practice of servant leadership,” explained Mark Sugimoto, Head of School, when asked why we choose to do 70 Acts of Kindness.

  • History of Hanalani Schools

    In 1952, Hanalani Schools began as King’s School, in Wahiawa. Over the next two decades, the school thrived and enrollment grew. The growth necessitated that high school students meet at other locations around Wahiawa.
     
    In 1973, King’s School was incorporated as an independent, non-profit organization and renamed to “Hanalani Schools” (“Hana” meaning Work and “Lani” meaning Heaven).
     
    In 1980, Hanalani Schools purchased six acres in Mililani Town; and in December 1982, the Upper School moved into a new 8-classroom building, now called Founder’s Hall, on the new Mililani campus. The Early Childhood (EC) and Elementary remained at the Wahiawa site until 1986, when the Nishikawa Building was completed and all the school was on one campus.
     
    In 1994, the school constructed the Weinberg Educational Center to provide Early Childhood with their own space and the Upper School with additional classrooms.
     
    In 2005, the Student Activity Center, referred to as “the Dream,” provided the students with a gymnasium, athletic offices, P.E. classroom, library, art and music studios, videography studio, additional classrooms, and offices.
     
    Today, the students continue to thrive, and parents continue to be an integral part of Hanalani’s program. While the campus has evolved, the core values of the school remain central-- “Love God, love others, challenge yourself.” As times and the world around changes, Hanalani teachers and administration continue to seek to provide relevant and meaningful educational experiences that will inspire and equip students to be their best as they pursue their dreams.
