Hanalani NHS Gets Hygiene Products to the Homeless

The student members of Hanalani Schools’ National Honor Society (NHS) chapter are going full STEAM ahead to help others in need!
Currently, they are working on a service project to get dental and hygiene products to the homeless community. On Friday, they gathered to assemble approximately 200 bags of dental and other basic hygiene products, which will be given to the physicians and medical students of the Home Project for distribution. The students were also able to involve the community by asking for donations, and alumna Jaclyn Palola (’04), a dentist at Palola Dental, contributed by donating 100 dental bags to the project.

When asked about how this project also benefits the student members involved, chapter president and senior Geetika Patwardhan voiced that, “It helps the students to see that even the small things that they receive go a long way for someone that has nothing.” Likewise, co-advisor Tracie Murao expressed that, “It’s great for students because they know what it [the effort] is going towards, and helps them to see how much we have and just give back.”

This year, Hanalani’s NHS chapter is focused on tangibly helping those in need, and this project was just one of many planned for the year. Upcoming service projects include making and giving blankets to the elderly, writing thank you cards to the faculty, running a pasta drive for a homeless shelter, and more!
