Harder wins Punahou Invitational, Boys 4th overall
Harder picks up his fifth victory, men finish 4th overall
It was a record breaking afternoon for the Hanalani Royals at the Punahou Invitational.
Junior Adam Harder broke the school record for single season victories, picking up his 5th first place finish of the season. Harder crossed the finish in 17:21, roughly nine seconds in front of the second place finisher.

Sophomore Ben Hodge was the next Royal, finishing 12th in 18:14. Freshman Kevin Au (38th, 19:37), Junior Ben Scully (51st, 20:20), and Senior Corban Hodge (59th, 20:49) rounded out the scoring team. The boys finished with124 points for their fourth place finish. Iolani won the meet with a score of 40.
“Our boys competed very hard today,” said Head Coach Jeremy Honold. “From runner one to runner eight, each one got some positive momentum to carry into championships. We are looking forward to coming back here in one week to ILH Championships.”
On the girls Varsity side, Freshman Kylie Castro led the way for the Lady Royals, finishing in 22:52, good for 25th overall. Junior Jordans Pomeroy (29th, 23:17) and Emma Toyama (40th, 24:09), Sophomore Kylie Morisaki (62nd, 25:27), and Junior Andersen Matsusaka (78th, 26:42) rounded out the scorers. The Lady Royals finished with 170 points, tied for 6th place. Punahou won the team score with a race low 32 points.
“Our girls performed admirably,” said Honold. “Some were a little off, some ran better than expected. The good news is we are finally getting healthy, and come next week, we should be good to go.”
On the Intermediate side, the boys competed in a 2 mile course. Ty Gonzales and Austin Oguma led the way, finishing the 40th and 41st respectively. They both ran a 14:22. Jourdan Hung was close behind in 14:27 (46th place), Aidan Almazan and Dane Fujiwara finished side by side in 16:21 (127 and 128th). With 253 points, the boys finished in 8th place. Punahou Intermediate won the team score in 29 points, and Damien’s Alexander Gardner won the race in 11:18.
For the girls, they did not have a team score. Kalea Kalahele led the way, covering the course in 19:41, good for 78th place. Maya Brantley and Railey Okamura finished next to each other, running in 21:06 and 21:09 respectively, good for 94th and 95th overall.
“We were missing a lot of pieces on our intermediate teams today, which was a real bummer. We are praying we will get healthy for championships, and come back with a vengeance in one week’s time.”
Next week, the Royals will return to Punahou to compete in the ILH Championships.
