Incorporating Fun While Distance Learning

Hanalani Lower School's shift to distance learning has been challenging for all-- teachers, students and parents. Thankfully, everyone has stepped up to the challenge. We surveyed parents and made adjustments. We are continually improving how we deliver education remotely. Plus, we are having fun along the way.

Lower School Principal Mrs. Bonnie Lee shares, "I couldn't be more proud of the way our teachers, students and families have adapted to distance learning. While it is very important to continue education, it is also so very important to have fun."

In addition to distance learning, students and families were encouraged to participate in the Lower School Photo Contest. Each week, themes were identified, pictures submitted, and winners selected. It was a fun addition to the stay-at-home routine. As the saying goes, “A picture is worth a thousand words.”

Innovation Lab Teacher Mrs. Janelle Philips, who coordinated the photo contest said, "One of the activities we did was an Alphabet Scavenger Hunt. It helps reinforce the order of the alphabet, and it was fun for our students and families to run around their house finding 26 items to complete the challenge."

From an Alphabet Scavenger Hunt to Mother’s Day Moments to Thanking Frontline Workers with Chalkart, and finally Show Us Your Best Mask… our students and families had a lot of fun! And during a time that has been unpredictable, we hope it brought smiles to all who participated and viewed the photos.
