In the summer of 2019 our Elementary Summer School Design Thinking class began a project to redesign and submit a proposal to our Administration for a new playground. The project grew which led to the formation of the Elementary Playground Design Thinking Team. This team met during lunch breaks and after school to see the playground redesign project through to completion.
Students used the Design Thinking Process: empathize, define, ideate, prototype, test, and implement, to come up with a final design. They collaborated with administrators, teachers, business partners, and other students so the design was within the budget and would be enjoyable for students. The playground was built in the Fall of 2021.
