In celebration of International Dot Day on September 15, our Grades 1 and 2 students connected the dots of creativity. Inspired by the book, “The Dot,” by Peter H. Reynolds, where a teacher encourages a doubting student to make her mark, starting with a single dot, which grew into a journey of confidence and self-discovery. This project allowed our students to believe in themselves while inspiring their creatively and building connection with each other through art. As the author of The Dot stated, “Just make a mark and see where it takes you.”
Blending this wonderful project with a little bit of art history, Mrs. Sameshima introduced the art of Wassily Kandinsky, who did similar dot inspired artwork in his color study, “Squares with Concentric Circles.”
